Herb Carnegie, who many believed was the best black player never to play in the NHL, has died. He was 92. Carnegie, a dazzling centreman, businessman, philanthropist, championship golfer, and Order of Canada recipient, leaves behind a remarkable legacy.

Prison term for speeding driver who killed passenger in crash

A Kelowna, B.C., man who caused a fatal crash while showing off the power of his luxury car was handed a 4 1/2 year prison sentence Friday. Michael Grenke, 36, was convicted of dangerous driving causing death and dangerous driving causing bodily harm in March 2011. He was behind the wheel of his 2006 BMW M5 when he accelerated from his parking spot to 110 km/h in less than a city block in downtown Edmonton the night of Aug. 19, 2009.

$118 million spent during Grey Cup celebrations

Too bad the Grey Cup Festival can’t be held in Vancouver every year. That was the sentiment of a downtown restaurant owner after a Tourism Vancouver report said $118 million was spent last year during the three-day celebrations here.
